Friendship- November 17, 2008

“Friendship is the golden thread that ties the heart of all the world.” This means that you can have friends from all over the world, like you and me!

These are the first two lines written by a 5th grader at Barnwell Elementary to his new friends in Ghana, West Africa! As he and his classmates viewed the video one more time, with the anticipation of giving their letters and favorite books to these new friends, their teacher pulled me aside to share this opening line. She shared how this brought tears to her eyes, and how moved she was by the students’ best efforts in the several drafts of their letters to make them just right. The students then eagerly with smiles passed on their favorite books.

This is just one of so many heartfelt moments and sentiments we will be sharing as we connect children globally, making a world of difference.

Today we are thrilled to take this step in being able to share in this journey with our friends that have made this possible across this nation, Canada and West Africa. We are in the final preparations and packing of the projects from well over 500 students in the southeast, as well as medical supplies and books. As we continue to weave that golden thread, we will do our best to bring you with us each step of the way!
